Personal plans may also include coverage for massage therapy; however, they typically impose modest per-visit reimbursement caps, often in the range of $20 per session, along with annual limits on the number of eligible treatments. In most cases, a physician’s referral is required, although certain plans, such as Manulife Flexcare and FollowMe, waive this requirement after three years of continuous coverage.

Publicly funded health plans typically do not extend coverage to massage therapy unless it is provided within a hospital setting and has been formally determined to be medically necessary.
